Maryland officially renamed its Northeastern Expressway, a 49-mile-long strip of I-95, the John F. Kennedy Memorial Highway a little over four months after the 35th president's assassination. That highway is part of the Delaware-Maryland Turnpike, which also includes 11 miles of I-95 in the First State. Just about a week before his untimely death, Kennedy had helped dedicate the new turnpike in a ceremony at the Maryland-Delaware border.
