Virginia's Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel, a crossing for I-64 in that region of the Old Dominion State, achieved a milestone when a record one-day volume of 107,942 vehicles drove through the facility. The average daily number of vehicles for the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel is a likewise impressive 83,000. That makes it the most heavily traveled of that region's bridge-tunnels, which also include the Monitor-Merrimac Bridge Tunnel (see April 25) and the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel. Opened in 1957, the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel facility remains a vital Interstate System link in that part of the U.S.
