In Maryland, a 3.6-mile four-lane divided section of I-695 -- the Interstate route popularly known as the Baltimore Beltway -- was opened between the Francis Scott Key Bridge and North Point Boulevard. The opening of the section, which took place without any fanfare, marked the first time that the entire Baltimore Beltway had at least four lanes.
