November 20, 1990

The final 14.5-mile segment of I-15, the fourth longest transcontinental north-south Interstate highway, was officially opened to traffic. At the dedication ceremony, the Federal Highway Administration's Regional Administrator Louis MacDonald read a message from Secretary of Transportation Samuel K. Skinner. In the message, Skinner emphasized how that year's completion of I-15 as well as other key Interstate routes -- I-10, I-35 and I-40 -- constituted an important milestone for the highway network. He noted, "1990 is the greatest year for major highway completions in the history of the interstate system." Utah Department of Transportation Executive Director Eugene Findlay more succinctly proclaimed, "We've done it!"
