Today in Interstate History
November 22, 1964Several motorists traveling through the mainline toll plaza of Maryland's John F. Kennedy Memorial Highway were given roses on the first anniversary of the assassination of the 35th president. The total number of roses handed out was 47, which would have been Kennedy's age that year. Kennedy had participated in the dedication of that segment of I-95 just before his death (see November 14), and it was named in his honor the following spring (see April 7). |
