The four-lane Baltimore Harbor Tunnel, carrying I-895 under the Patapsco River, was officially opened. In the time since its debut, that 1.4-mile-long Interstate System link has helped to reduce Eastern Seaboard traffic congestion in the vicinity of Maryland's largest city.
