Today in Interstate History
December 5, 1970The final three-mile segment of Dan Ryan Expressway was officially opened in Chicago's south side between 147th Street and Kilpatrick Avenue. Participants in the dedication ceremony, which involved a motorcade and ribbon-cutting, included U.S. Representative Edward Derwinski, FHWA Regional Administrator Fred B. Farrell, and various Cook County officials. That segment of the expressway was built as part of I-57, the longest Interstate route in Illinois. |
