Connecticut Governor Ella T. Grasso said that she supported completing her state's portion of I-84 between the Hartford area and the Rhode Island border and would seek federal funds for that purpose. At the time of Grasso's announcement, that Interstate route ran from Scranton, Pennsylvania, through New York State, and into Connecticut just east of Hartford. The completion of I-84 in Connecticut would further solidify that highway's status as a key east-west corridor in the Constitution State.
