This Is The Place: Salt Lake City, UT – June 17-19

Utah Governor Jon Huntsman, Jr., riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, prepares to lead the convoy out of Salt Lake City.

Local officials held an exclusive dinner event Saturday night for sponsors and state and local officials with Utah Governor Jon Huntsman, Jr. and featured speaker U.S. Senator Bob Bennett. Senator Bennett's father, Senator Wallace Bennett, voted on the Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1956. Public events centered around the Innovative Mobility Showcase (IMS), which highlights Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). The IMS display featured smart-vehicles, which are specially equipped cars that "talk" to the road, and examples of the ability for the road to "talk" back to the vehicles for safe and efficient driving. The showcase featured cars that "stop themselves" for obstacles, deliver drivers real-time information about road conditions and drive times, etc. After a special media tour of these interactive experiences in advanced vehicle and road technologies, the display was open to the public on Saturday afternoon. On Monday morning, a send off breakfast was held.
